What this calculator does
This app estimates the drywall sheets, joint compound, tape, and screws for a room from its wall and ceiling area, so you make one trip to the supply house.
How it works
- Sheets = total area ÷ sheet area (a 4x8 sheet is 32 ft²; a 4x12 is 48 ft²), rounded up.
- Screws — roughly one per square foot of board with standard framing.
- Mud and tape — estimated from the number of sheets and joint length.
Worked example
A 12 x 12 room with 8-ft walls: walls = 4 × 12 × 8 = 384 ft², ceiling = 144 ft², total 528 ft². Using 4x8 sheets: 528 ÷ 32 = 16.5 → 17 sheets, plus waste.

Drywall FAQ
How many sheets will I need?
Divide the total wall and ceiling area by the sheet area — 32 ft² for a 4x8 sheet or 48 ft² for a 4x12 — and round up, then add waste.
Does it estimate mud and screws?
Yes. It estimates joint compound and tape from the sheet count and gives a screw count based on standard framing spacing.
4x8 or 4x12 sheets?
Both. Larger sheets mean fewer seams to finish; the app recalculates the count for the sheet size you pick.
Does it work offline?
